Bird Migration

GänseThe Lower Oder Valley is most famous for the bird migrations. In spring and fall over 100,000 geese and ducks, as well as 10,000 cranes and other migratory birds use the Lower Oder Valley as a rest area or for wintering grounds. Especially the crane migration in fall, when each morning the cranes fly low overhead from their nighttime haven in the Polish part of the Oder's riparian zone, to feed on mowed corn and wheat fields on the German side, and back in the evening, is a spectacular tourist attraction.
